Team Ontario Captures Gold Medal and National Title as Fort McMurray Celebrates 10 Years of Partnership with Baseball Canada
(Fort McMurray, AB, August 16, 2026) – The 2026 Baseball Canada 18U National Championship, presented by Fort McMurray 468 First Nation Economic Development concluded on Sunday after four exciting days of elite baseball at Legacy Dodge Field at MacDonald Island Park and Ross Hennigar Park in Thickwood.
This year's championship carried added significance as Fort McMurray celebrated 10 years of partnership with Baseball Canada that began when the community first welcomed a Baseball Canada tournament in 2016.
"We're incredibly proud to celebrate another successful national championship in Wood Buffalo," said Organizing Committee Co-Chairs Mike Mayuk (President of the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association) and Jennifer Warwick (Manager of Recreation and Guest Experience at the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo). "Over the past ten years, we've welcomed Canada's top young baseball players to our community and built a reputation as a premier host for national championships. This year's tournament was another outstanding example of what can be accomplished through strong partnerships, dedicated volunteers, and a community that embraces sport."
Teams from across Canada delivered exceptional competition throughout the tournament, showcasing remarkable skill, sportsmanship, and determination.
When the final out was recorded, the medal standings were:
Gold Medal: Team Ontario (Mississauga Tigers)
Silver Medal: Team Alberta (Parkland Twins)
Bronze Medal: Team British Columbia (VI Mariners)
Additional tournament honours included:
Best Offensive Player: Ramsey Chung, Team Ontario
Best Defensive Player: Brodie Woywitka, Team British Columbia
The championship brought together teams from across the country, giving athletes the opportunity to compete for a national title while experiencing the hospitality and spirit of Northern Alberta.
Over the past decade, Fort McMurray has proudly hosted Baseball Canada championships in 2016, 2018, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and now 2026, welcoming thousands of athletes, coaches, officials and families from across the country while reinforcing the community's reputation as one of Canada's premier hosts for national sporting events. Future Baseball Canada events to be hosted in Fort McMurray include the Women’s 19U Championship in 2028 and 2029 and 18U Championship in 2030 and 2031.
