Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo and CNOOC Petroleum North America ULC Celebrate Renewal of Field House Partnership

(Fort McMurray, AB, October 3, 2025) – The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) is proud to announce the renewal of its longstanding partnership with CNOOC Petroleum North America ULC (CNOOC), ensuring continued naming rights to CNOOC Field Houses 1 & 2 at MacDonald Island Park for an additional three years.

This renewal marks over a decade of partnership, as CNOOC has proudly supported these vital community spaces since 2014. As two of the most utilized indoor venues in the region, CNOOC Field Houses 1 & 2 provide essential multi-use space that supports local sport, recreation, wellness, leisure and community connection.

With over 5,900 hours of annual usage, these spaces host everything from indoor soccer, basketball, and volleyball to concerts, trade shows, multicultural expos, galas, and more. The field houses also serve dozens of sport user groups and leagues such as Fort McMurray Minor Baseball and various volleyball associations, in addition to welcoming thousands of guests for special events each year.

“CNOOC Field Houses 1 & 2 are not just buildings – they are true community hubs,” said Graig Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of the RRC. “This partnership with CNOOC allows us to continue offering accessible, inclusive spaces that bring our community together. We're especially proud that 5% of the partnership investment is directed toward our WB Kids program, which helps remove financial barriers for youth across the region. We are grateful for CNOOC’s continued commitment to making a difference in Wood Buffalo.”

Beyond the Field Houses, CNOOC also contributes to broader community initiatives, including the Anzac Recreation Centre presented by CNOOC, Canada Day celebrations, The Craze, and Baseball Canada events, further demonstrating their dedication to community investment across the region.

“We are proud to extend our support of the CNOOC Field Houses 1 & 2 in partnership with the RRC,” says Liu Xiaoxiang, CEO – CNOOC North America. “The Field Houses are vital gathering spaces in the region as they bring community members together through recreational activities, local programming and family-friendly events. It’s important to CNOOC to continue to support these spaces as they connect and strengthen our community.”

Together, the RRC and CNOOC continue to create spaces where residents of all ages and backgrounds can gather, play, and connect.
