The Regional Recreation Corporation (RRC) in collaboration with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) kicked off the second phase of community engagement on Thursday night for a proposed Northside Community Recreation Centre at Abrams Land.
A new era of community recreation in Fort Chipewyan got underway on Friday as the beginning of construction at the Archie Simpson Arena Aquatic Expansion was signaled by an official groundbreaking ceremony at the project site.
"This project is part of Council’s commitment to build complete and livable communities by enhancing access to recreation in all parts of the region," said Mayor Melissa Blake. "This aquatic expansion will provide a wonderful gathering place for community activity and is an example of the great things that happen when we work together."

Standing atop a 1.1 million pound, 51-foot long Komatsu 930E haul truck, SMS Equipment President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Knight announced SMS Equipment as the naming partner for the new SMS Stadium at Shell Place on Thursday afternoon at the SMS Equipment 63N site.
The community is reminded of Shell Place progress ahead of Canada Day and that no outdoor concerts will take place at MacDonald Island Park this summer due to construction.
Community members joined Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) Mayor Melissa Blake and Council and representatives from Shell Albian Sands and provincial government as the first piece of steel was placed at Shell Place on Friday morning.
