(Fort McMurray, April 23, 2019) - Lace Up, Let’s Go! The Fort McMurray Marathon Organizing Committee is thrilled to announce that Early Bird Registration for the 2019 Fort McMurray Marathon launches April 24, 2019, at 10 a.m. The annual event is a partnership between the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRCWB) and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).

This year, Fort McMurray’s largest annual running event will bring a crowd of athletes, spectators and partners together to celebrate community, personal achievement and fun at MacDonald Island Park on Sunday September 15th.

“Moving into our seventh year, we look forward to hosting runners from right here in our region, as well as across the province and country,” says Kelsey Stefanizyn, Fort McMurray Marathon Chair. “This Marathon was designed with our local runners in mind and we are so happy it turned into a yearly staple for so many people looking to pursue their running goals and to challenge themselves on a really great course.”

Over the past six years, this race has become a landmark event for the region with a growing base of dedicated runners inspiring others to push their limits, reach their goals and try something new. Runners will have the option to register for one of six race distances, including the ATB Financial Marathon (42.2km), ATB Financial Half Marathon (21.1km), ATB Financial 10km, 5km, 3km and the Inter Pipeline Kid’s Fun Run.  With increasing participation year-over-year, early registration is encouraged to reserve your spot.

Back by popular demand registration for the Fort McMurray Marathon Fit-to-Run program will launch May 6, 2019. This free program will facilitate short or long-distance coaching and will consist of 12 or 16-week training plans with the support of an industry professional. Space is limited, stay tuned for updates.

Participants are invited to attend the Fort McMurray Marathon Runner’s Social on Saturday, September 14, to enjoy a healthy pre-race dinner, meet fellow runners, pick up race packages and ask pre-race questions.
