(Fort McMurray, May 9, 2013) - The community is reminded of Shell Place progress ahead of Canada Day and that no outdoor concerts will take place at MacDonald Island Park this summer due to construction.

“The current Shell Place project location has served the community well during Canada Day celebrations including in 2011 when KISS came to Fort McMurray as part of the Hottest Show on Earth Tour,” said Tim Reid, Chief Operating Officer at MacDonald Island Park. “With Shell Place construction gaining momentum, MacDonald Island Park is unable to hold outdoor concerts this year including in partnership with Events Wood Buffalo and its CanadaROCKS concert series.”

MacDonald Island Park would like to keep the community informed with Canada Day celebrations including the CanadaROCKS concert series fewer than two months away.

“We understand the community has an expectation and desire to see great events happen at the Island and that sentiment is the basis of the Shell Place project,” said Reid. “Shell Place, which is on schedule to open in 2015, needs to be built first. In two short years, we will have an iconic development in our downtown core that will expand on our existing facilities and include an outdoor events venue the community deserves. In the short term, we look forward to Events Wood Buffalo’s Canada Day celebrations off the Island this year.”
