(Fort McMurray, AB, November 2, 2017) - The Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery at MacDonald Island Park is pleased to welcome Beyond ‘the patch’ Stories from Wood Buffalo to the gallery in November.

Beyond ‘the patch’ Stories from Wood Buffalo is an exhibition developed by the Art Gallery of Alberta for The Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program. The exhibition, making its debut in Fort McMurray, will travel across the province and showcase the works of five artists: David Ball, Lucie Bause, Shauna Kelly, Kritsana Naowakhun and Erin Stinson. Through paintings, drawings and photographs, the artists share their experience of life in the Wood Buffalo region, inviting viewers to look beyond the traditional narrative associated with Fort McMurray and the oil sands to see the complexity and beauty of a region often misunderstood.

“It is truly an honour to host the debut of this exhibition in our gallery,” said Rachel Orser, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. “All of these artists have previously exhibited in our gallery, and it is not only a delight to welcome them back but to see them be part of this collective exhibition designed to showcase not only their works but our region to provincial audiences. We are so proud to have the opportunity to welcome this exhibition and share it with the community of our region.”

The opening reception for Beyond ‘the patch’ Stories from Wood Buffalo takes place at 7:00 pm on November 9 at the Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery. Light refreshments will be served and all community members are invited to attend. Beyond ‘the patch’ Stories from Wood Buffalo will be available for viewing from November 6 – November 29.
